Diversity, Equity, Human Rights Local Committee
An important off-shoot of our Professional Development Committee is our Diversity, Equity, Human Rights (DEHR) Committee. This Local is increasingly becoming more diverse and, as teachers, it is important to be aware of and address these students’ needs as guided by the Teaching Quality Standards (TQS). Our DEHR committee helps teachers access PD opportunities / resources and acts as a connection to the ATA Provincial DEHR committee. We have students that are First Nations / Metis / Inuit, English Language Learners, LBGTQ, immigrants and refugees. We need to recognize and embrace our multiculturalism as well as look at inclusion for our students. These are some of the areas of focus of our local DEHR committee.
